Voyager

Motor selection
With that said, the ECO 8 and JR Voyager E are the best bets. My hat is off to the Voyager....here is a reply I just sent someone else who asked the same questions! Yes, the Voyager is very aerobatic on the brushless set up with the 10 cell packs as suggested - I sold my ECO 8s because I like my Voyagers so much! Id have to say your best bet for a 10 cell heli is either the ECO 8 or JR Voyager E. Personally, I think the Voyager E is the better machine. Its very well engineered, tough and smooth. Parts arent as expensive as ECO 8 parts, AND the parts are very easy to get for the Voyager. Not to mention, the ECO really needs a good bit of hop ups to be as smooth and solid as the box stock Voyager. Overall, the ECO 8 is a lighter heli. This equates into more flight time. Even still, I get almost 7-8 minutes on 10 cells with the Voyager E on the Hacker B40-8L motor and Kontronik SMILE ESC. The same set up would yield about 10-11 minutes in an ECO 8. Problem is - light means fragile. And since the parts arent cheap and are sometimes hard to get for the ECO 8, this is a plus for the Voyager. The Voyager is heavier, but the added weight is nice. It smooths out the heli, and really helps on windy days. As far as performance, the Voyager with the 8L motor on the stock 15 tooth pinion flies great on 10 cells. The best packs are the new Sanyo CP1700s. These 10 cell CP1700s packs weigh 5 ounces less than 2400 packs - thats a 10% weight savings! AND, you still get nearly 7 minutes out of the 1700s....the lighter weight actually keeps these times up. With 2400s, you have the added weight and only gain about a minute flight time. The lighter CP1700 packs make the heli VERY lively, with power for all sorts of basic 3D, and with the right upgrades, itll 3D like a good .30! Id suggest the Voyager highly. Get it from cyberheli.com. They sell the heli, motor, ESC and JR 460HH gyro for $399. The stock motor and ESC work well on 8 cells, but changing brushes is a hassle. Id suggest going brushless right from the start. Cyberheli sells the Hacker 8L motor, Kontronik SMILE 40-6-12 ESC and a custom motor mount for the Voyager for $279....WELL worth it! They also sell upgrade aluminum mixer and seesaw arms with bearings - get these when youre ready for 3D. Right off the bat, I also suggest the Mark Pozzuli cabron side frames. These gorgeous works of art are only $40...and worth double that! With these side frames, you can run the lighter Hitec HS-85MG servos on the CCPM controls and a fast and light HS-81 on the tail. The stock frames accept standard servos and minis with included adapters, but Mark's frames coupled to the 85s/81 saves another 5 ounces - again, thats a big weight savings of almost 10%! I can get you the info to order from Mark if you do decide to go that route....theyre an excellent value for the cost! Of course the best packs are the 10 cell CP1700s. Itll also fly excellent on 10 2000s-3000s, but the lighter 1700s make it shine. Tony at eflightpacks.com has the best 10 cell CP1700 packs out there, end to end soldered and all.
